Daily Devotional: Friday, Oct 9
Speaker: Ben Sigman Theme: Wisdom Weekend Music links on iTunes: Today is the Day by Lincoln Brewster; Holy Is the Lord by Chris Tomlin; You'll Come by Hillsong United; For Who You Are by Hillsong. Read: Proverbs 8:8-11; Proverbs 9:8; Psalm 19:14 Proverbs Challenge Chapter of the Day: Proverbs Chapter 6 Think: I remember as a child I would enjoy talking to adults more than I would kids my age because they were always eager to share the lessons they learned from their mistakes. They desired to protect me from the same pitfalls or to grow me to be the best I could be. In fact, when I was 17 years old, my best friend was 40 years old. I appreciated that she would spend time with me and teach me about life. She challenged me to improve areas of my life, such as my speaking skills. She recognized that my English was poor, so she would hang up the phone each time I spoke improperly. I would become very frustrated after several hang-ups, although I would always know that she had my best interest at heart. She was sharing her wisdom with me and it made me feel cared for and valued. I appreciated her willingness to be honest even when it hurt a bit, because I knew without a doubt that her motive was always pinned on the fact that she cared about me. This is exactly how I feel when I read God's Word - I know God's heart for me. It is to guide me and correct me simply because He cares for me and wants the very best for me. And though people may offer those same things to one another imperfectly, our Father in Heaven does it perfectly, every time! Do: Consider how you help people in your life to become the best they can be. Are you willing to speak wise counsel when the opportunity arises with the right heart and motive? When a trusted friend or mentor gives you feedback, consider your reaction: Can he/she be investing in helping you be the best you can be? Pray: Dear Jesus, Please open my heart to those in my life You choose to use to be honest with me. Help me to share my wisdom with others and to encourage them to be all that You desire for them but let me always do it with Your heart and according to Your Word. Amen.
