Speaker:Ben Sigman Theme: Momentum Reality Weekend Music links on iTunes: Glorious One by Marcus Jones; All Over the Worldby Matt Redman; For Who You Areby Hillsong; Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) by Chris Tomlin Read: Proverbs 24:30-34 ; Galatians 6:7-9 Proverbs Challenge Chapter of the Day: Proverbs 28 Think: My next door neighbors have become a little unpopular with the neighborhood lately... You see, the house adjacent to us is looking more than a little worse for wear. The lawn is overgrown, the rain gutters are beginning to sag and the driveway and doorstep continue to be littered with newspapers and flyers dropped off by the regular parade of solicitors. It seems this is an age old problem...The writer of Proverbs saw a similar situation in "the field of the lazy man" long ago: "It was all overgrown with thorns; its surface was covered with nettles; its stone wall was broken down. When I saw it, I considered it well; I looked on it and received instruction" (Proverbs 24:30-32). As we often see in Scripture, God is using a common experience to teach us something important. As the last part of this Proverb helps us see, we can learn something far beyond the importance of lawn care... When I'm out digging up weeds and raking leaves, I am working to improve my little piece of paradise. With regular attention things look good and the time I take is helpful to the overall growth and health of all the foliage and shrubbery. In much the same way, our spiritual life thrives and stays healthy with some regular attention and care. When our spirit is neglected weeds of anger, faithlessness, discouragement can take root in our hearts and anxiety can crowd out the peace God has given. Troubles begin to overwhelm, fear starts to overrun faith. But with a bit of investment in our spiritual fitness - spending time reading God's Word, serving Him in a ministry, praying often, coming together to worship, taking steps forward in our faith - we work against that process and develop a growing, thriving spiritual life! Do: Look for any signs of neglect in your spiritual life. Keep making investments in your walk with Christ and stay healthy and growing. Pray: God help me to continually invest in my relationship with You. Show me the spiritual weeds that need to be uprooted in my life and then give me the strength to do what I need to do to stay close to You and growing in my faith. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
