Proverbs Chapter a Day Challenge: Proverbs 30 and 31

Think: As we finish our study of the Book of Proverbs it seems fitting that we finish by taking a step back and adjust our view to look at the big picture... eternity.

One reason we're left here on earth and not taken right to heaven after committing our life to Christ is that God has work for us to do. The time of our death isn't determined by anyone or anything here on earth - the timing is up to God Himself. When we have done all that God has for us to do, then we get the joy of going to our real home-heaven!  As Paul put it, "For when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep;" (Acts 13:36).

In the meantime, there's a lot to do! Jesus said "As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work." (John 9:4). Night is coming when we will breathe our last breath and leave this world, or Jesus will return to take us to be with Him. Each day brings that time a little closer. Seems all the more precious how you spend your day today doesn't it?

So as long as we have today, we work-not to acquire, to get ahead, to have a great retirement, but to make Jesus known! We work at being his hands and feet in this world and touching people with His love.

Do: Be about God's work today. Don't lose sight that today is special, and brings us a little closer to our real home - Heaven!

Pray: God I want to be about your work today and everyday I have left on this earth. Father I can't wait to get to heaven but while I'm here, use me to do your will! In Jesus' Name, Amen.
