Daily Devotional: Tuesday, Nov 10
Speaker: Ben Sigman Theme: A Dangerous Church Weekend Music links on iTunes: Majestic by Lincoln Brewster; Hosanna by Paul Baloche; The Stand by Hillsong; Desert Song by Hillsong. Read: Joshua 2:1-13; Acts 15:1-12 Think: While looking at a ‘Dangerous Church' Pastor Ben shared the Timberlake mission: To make more and better disciples of Jesus Christ. It means we believe four things, the first of which is that people want to connect with God. In our passage today we read the story of Rahab, who was known as a prostitute in Jericho. The most remarkable thing about her is that despite only hearing rumors of God and His work, she had more faith in Him than in the solid walls around her and the many soldiers in this strong town. In her heart she wanted to be one of God's people and if that meant going against her family and friends then so be it. The desire to connect with a God she knew little of was stronger than the world around her. How wonderful that the spies were able to recognize the love of God in her heart and save her....especially as she played a key role in history and went on to be a direct ancestor of Christ. I became a Christian at 14 years old purely because I felt a pull towards God and took myself to a church. How much easier that would have been if someone had invited me! Are we looking out for people that are feeling God's pull on their lives? Sometimes it's hard as we have our own filters about who we should invite. Like the early church, we have to overcome our personal feelings about it and realize that God wants to connect with any sinner, not just those we find easy or that fit our criteria. Do: Think about the people in your life and look for opportunities to bring God into their life in a non threatening way. Be willing to invite and include those who just may be feeling God's pull on their heart. Pray: Dear Lord, please help us see the desire for You in people we interact with. Please help us welcome all who enter our church and show them Your love. We pray for those in our lives that don't know You and ask for Your presence to become evident in their lives. Please give us a heart for the lost in this community and throughout the world as we follow You. Amen.
The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church. |
