Daily Devotional: Wednesday, Dec 2
Speaker: Greg Rohlinger Theme: Whatever it Takes Weekend Music links on iTunes: Salvation is Here by Hillsong United; Run by Hillsong United; You'll Come by Hillsong United; Unfailing Love by Chris Tomlin. Read: Romans 1:8-17 Think: Today on my way to work, my car transmission was going out, my daughter was crying and my wife was on the phone telling me there had been possible fraudulent charges on our credit card!!! And I thought to myself...wow, I am so blessed! Are you kidding me, honestly, I was ticked! Then it hit me, just the day before I had prayed for the Lord to "increase my territory" and take me out of my comfort zone, allow me to increase my boundaries and use me to share the Good News of the Gospel. When I prayed that prayer, I just assumed that I would be receiving a phone call from an old friend ready to commit his life to Christ, sharing my faith with one of my neighbors or a nameless stranger that I just happened upon... But that wasn't God's plan. The comment from last Sunday's sermon, "We need to go into the world, not avoid it" ran through my mind. My translation, prayer and integration of this statement made me wonder if I was really praying the prayer or was I just going through the motions? I really needed to take a look at my life and say to God, "If this is how you want me to humbly serve, then I better not complain about it and look for the opportunity in it." Did I share my faith with all the people I came in contact with later that day? No. But did I feel the Holy Spirit encouraging me to talk to the shuttle driver that drove me to work that day? Yes. I didn't have to go through my testimony or preach to him, but it was as subtle as asking him about his day, asking him about how long he'd worked there, asking him about his kids and just being genuinely interested and thankful for his help that day, which I was! Do: When you pray to God to use you for his glory, be prepared to react because it will happen. However it may not happen quite the way you think, but it will happen because that's a prayer God always takes us up on! Pray: Heavenly Father, please help me to see your plan for my life. Tune me into the Holy Spirit guiding me the direction you want me to go and over all, humble me in the process. Amen. The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church. |
