Think: Have you noticed that when God works so much of the time it happens through people? When Pastor Ben talked about David and Goliath this weekend I was reminded of that fact again: God wants to use us to accomplish His plans and purposes on this earth.

The account of David and Goliath is found in 1 Samuel 17:1-52. This story is a great example of how the Lord reveals his power by working through those who are willing. When faced with an impossible situation David isn't found sitting and wringing his hands in worry, or waiting on the sidelines for God to intervene with a clap of thunder and a bolt of lightening to undo the enemy. No, we see that David takes what he has - in this case his experience (having fought a lion and a bear, no giants however...) and his ability to use a slingshot - and offers them to God. Then he trusts God to do the rest!

And David gives full credit where credit is due... "Moreover David said, 'The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine'. . . "Then David said to the Philistine, 'You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin.  But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts ... for the battle is the Lord's, and He will give you into our hands'." (1 Samuel 17:37, 45-47)  And does God ever deliver!

David brought what little he had and then waited expectantly for God to do what only He can do! We too, can have the joy of partnering with God when we simply bring what we have - our time, our ability, our experience, etc. and allow Him in His amazing power to do the miraculous.

Do: God wants to work through you... Allow Him to use your time, resources, abilities, passion for His plan and purpose today.

Pray: Lord, I want to do your will and be part of what you are doing here in my community, in my church and beyond. Use me to accomplish what You desire. I bring my gifts and my resources and wait expectantly for your call. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church.
