Read: See Below Think: Confidence. Admittedly I have struggled with it many times in my life. Get me up in front of crowd that I am not familiar with and my heart begins to beat a little faster, my top lip begins to sweat, and small twitches occur in my eyelids…OK I will stop there. Little league, bottom of the sixth (only six innings in Little League), bases loaded, two out, shaking like a leaf at bat. Maybe for good reason I lack confidence as a public speaker and as a baseball player because I am just not real consistent or reliable in these areas. Where can we consistently place our confidence? Pastor Ben mentioned in the sermon this weekend to not mistake confidence for pride. So I thought about it today and asked myself what can I have confidence in, and where should I be cautious about placing my confidence. God’s word can provide us answers on both counts. Today we will look at where we can place our confidence fully. Place your Confidence Here: Jesus - Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. – John 14:6 God’s Word - All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. - 2 Timothy 3:16-17 God’s Faithfulness -For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. - Psalm 33:4 God’s Forgiveness - But in our time something new has been added. What Moses and the prophets witnessed to all those years has happened. The God-setting-things-right that we read about has become Jesus-setting-things-right for us. And not only for us, but for everyone who believes in him. For there is no difference between us and them in this. Since we've compiled this long and sorry record as sinners (both us and them) and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we're in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. - Romans 3:24 (Message Translation) God’s Heart - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16 The Bible is clear about what we can trust and what we cannot. Really read the scriptures above. Go over them once again and ask yourself where you can and should place your trust and confidence today. If God was so willing to sacrifice his Son for our salvation can’t we place our confidence in Him fully? Do: Make your own list of what you can be confident in and what you should be cautious of. Look to the bible to help you understand what you can count on with surety. Pray: Father with you I have certainty. Certainty of your love for me. Certainty of your faithfulness, your wisdom, your truth. Help me today to fully place my trust and confidence in you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
