Speaker: Ben Sigman Theme: Baptism & Communion Weekend Music links on iTunes: God is With Us by Michael Olson; Yesterday, Today and Forever by Vicky Beeching; Your Name by Paul Baloche; Lead Me to the Cross by Hillsong United. READ: Romans 8:14; John 16:13 THINK: Have you ever been asked to take on a task that you thought was bigger than what you could handle? There are an endless number of scenarios, take over a business, a new position at work, step up to management, run a household, have a baby... There are tons of opportunities out there that God knows I can handle but I often have to try and convince myself that I don’t have the strength to actually do what God has already called me to do. In listening to Pastor Ben’s message over the weekend, it made me reflect on baptism, a public confession of faith, and how everyone watching will know that the person getting baptized has taken the next right step of committing their life to Christ. What I wasn’t prepared for was what God had in store for me just a couple of days before. I was actually asked to baptize someone during the service. This was a huge honor in my life, probably up there with asking Jesus Christ into my heart and my kids accepting the Lord. However, when I was first asked my initial response in my mind was “No”. Then I started to question, “Why No?” Not that I am even close to John the Baptist, but I thought about him and wondered what if John hadn’t changed his mind when he told Jesus he would not baptize him? It really made me reflect on my walk was with the Lord. Was I walking the walk and talking the talk, was I “all in” and I thought to myself, “Hey, I may never get asked again so I better say yes!” Are you preparing for the day when you get asked to do something out of your comfort zone and possibly help out a family, friend or church? Is your heart ready to say “yes” to God’s calling, whatever that involves? DO: Make a decision today that when God wants to stretch you out of your comfort zone for the growth of his kingdom you will say “yes” and allow Him to work through you.
PRAY: Heavenly Father, show me the way Lord that I can walk step by step with you, growing closer to you every day. When your calling comes to serve you in a unique way, help me have the courage to say yes to you Lord and place my trust in you and not my own abilities. Amen.
