Speaker: Ben Sigman Theme: Baptism & Communion Weekend Music links on iTunes: God is With Us by Michael Olson; Yesterday, Today and Forever by Vicky Beeching; Your Name by Paul Baloche; Lead Me to the Cross by Hillsong United. Read: Luke 22:14-20; 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 THINK: I don’t know about you, but outside of church, I don’t use the word “Communion” a ton. When I looked up the word communion it was defined as: “exchange of thoughts, act of sharing, or holding in common” In listening Pastor Ben preach about Communion, it made me want to break out what I call the big rocks of Communion. Those are: Examine ourselves before communion – Are we right with the Lord, is there any unconfessed sin in our lives? Remember what Christ did for us – As it states, one of the clear objectives for communion is doing it to remember what Christ did for us on the cross. Repetition – We are supposed to keep doing this till Jesus returns Collectively - Doing communion together as believers Communion for Christians is a remembrance for what the Lord Jesus Christ has done to pay for our sins. He gave His life to pay the price for our sins. (Romans 3:23) “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The elements themselves are nothing special, but it is the examination, remembrance, repetition and doing it as the church body that is important. It is something that we should not take frivolously but instead count it a privileged to partake in. DO: The next time we have communion, remember to examine your heart, remember what Christ did on the cross for our sins and see this as an honor that only Christians partake in. PRAY: Heavenly Father, I am so thankful that you took my place on the cross and died for my sins so that I could have eternal life. Lord please continue to work in my life and provide me the clarity the next time I participate Communion to fully acknowledge what Communion means to me as a follower of Christ. Amen The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church. |
