Speaker: Ben Sigman Theme: Fear Weekend Music links on iTunes: All Over the World - Matt Redman, Let the Praises Ring - Lincoln Brewster, Happy Day - Tim Hughes Read: Psalm 56:10-13 Think: Trust is a big part of life. We all trust in other people all the time. For small stuff, we don’t even think about it: - We trust the barista to use non-fat milk, not low-fat (can you really tell?). - We trust the trash truck to come on same day every week. - We trust the cleaners to have our stuff ready on Thursday after 4:00. For some bigger stuff, we trust but we might think about it: - We trust the other guy to stay in his lane. - We trust the pilot and crew when we board an airplane. - We trust the person who cuts our hair. Occasionally, there’s really big stuff that requires trust, even though it makes us nervous: - We trust the school faculty to care for our kids. - We trust the doctor who is going to operate on us. - We trust the escrow company with the biggest check we’ve ever written. God gives us the opportunity to trust Him, too. But the trust God deserves is not trust based on low risk. Nor should we only trust Him half-heartedly because we have no choice. Our capacity to trust other people is largely based on who we are. In contrast, God’s trustworthiness is based on His character alone. God is worthy of our complete trust; He will never fail us or forsake us. Whether or not we like the circumstances in which we find ourselves, God is with us. Our goal must be to say with the Psalmist: “in God I trust; I will not be afraid” (v. 11). Do: Complete this sentence: Someday I’ll trust God with absolutely everything; today I’ll trust Him with ______________. Pray: Lord, I struggle to trust You as completely as I should. Sometimes I trust myself more than I trust You, as foolish as that sounds. I want to trust you fully. Show me more of You, so that I can learn to trust You better. Amen. The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church. |
