Speaker: Ben Sigman Theme: Better Sex Weekend Music links on iTunes: All to You - Lincoln Brewster, Your Grace Is Enough - Christ Tomlin, Holding Nothing Back - Tim Hughes, 'Til I See You - Hillsong READ: Song of Solomon 4:1-5, Proverbs 5:18-19 THINK: Early on in our marriage, I read in a women’s magazine that your husband sees you with different eyes than you see yourself. Reading the passages in the Song of Solomon seems to confirm that! Solomon is, as they say “ga ga” over this woman! The article went on to say that when your husband is going on about how great you look, just accept that it is his true opinion of you. We women tend to stop him and point out all the flaws. He says, “Honey, you look great in that dress” and she says, “But look how big my rear end is”! He says, “You are the prettiest woman in the room” and she says, “No I’m not! Just look at so and so over there!” The problem is that if you keep focusing his attention back to your flaws, he may someday agree with you! You may not be the most beautiful person in the room, but what really matters is your spouse’s opinion. It is respect that most men desire, so respect his opinion. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. So many women struggle with feeling like they don’t measure up to our culture’s idea of beauty. If you respond to your husband in love, appreciating the (miraculous) fact that he likes the way you look, you will begin to accept yourself more which leads to a more fulfilling sex life, as well. God’s original intention was that the “man and woman were both naked and they felt no shame” Gen. 2:25. DO: Accept compliments from your spouse with grace. Bite your tongue if you begin to refute what they say with a negative comment. Respond to them in love. Notice the difference in how you begin to accept yourself more. PRAY: God, thank you that my spouse sees me with eyes of love that cover my faults. After all, you see us through Jesus’ eyes and it covers our sin and shame. Thank you that we need not feel ashamed in your presence or in the presence of our loved one. Amen The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church.
