Read: Luke 8:1-3, Luke 22:7-13, Matthew 21:1-8, Matthew 27:57-58, Philippians 4:14 Think: Your service makes a difference. Whether you volunteer in the parking lot, serve in the nursery or put together bulletins, you help create an environment for life change at Timberlake. There are stories all throughout the Bible of people who were devoted to God’s service. These people throughout history served where they could and impacted the kingdom of God for eternity. People who had been changed by God’s hand were compelled to serve Him. Just like you and me. Mary Magdalene, Joanna and Susanna who had been healed in various ways, gave from their own money to support Jesus’ ministry. Do you remember the nameless man who prepared a large gathering room for Jesus and the disciples to have Passover? And how about the random guy near Jerusalem who gave his donkey and colt for Jesus to ride into the city? Joseph, a rich man that followed Jesus offered a tomb to bury Jesus’ body. Lydia was the woman who sold purple cloth near the gates of Philippi. She later had a house church (the folks the letter of Philippians was written to) that sent gifts to Paul on his missionary trips and stays in the gray bar hotel. Countless ordinary people who had experienced Jesus Christ in a life changing way returned thanks through acts of service. They weren’t any more special, or called, or holy than you and I, and their acts of service probably even seemed small and insignificant as they gave them. But we can see that every act of service was important to the recipient, and important to God’s plan. Don’t under estimate the power of your acts of service as you make Timberlake a welcoming, safe and loving place where others can experience Jesus for themselves. Do: Thank someone who has recently served you in a practical way. Dedicate your life to the important work of service in the Kingdom of God. Pray: Thank you Lord, for changing me from the inside out. Thank you giving me new life, peace and freedom. I want to return thanks by helping others to experience new life in Christ too. Give me opportunity to serve you in practical ways and bless the work of my hands. May I be a blessing to you and the people you put in my life. Amen The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church. |
