Speaker: John HansenTheme: The Kingdom of God Is... Weekend Music links on iTunes: All Over the World - Matt Redman, Time Has Come - Hillsong, From the Inside Out - Hillsong, Cannons - Phil Wickham Read: Daniel 5:13-29, Psalm 36:7 Think: After Pastor John’s message on The Kingdom of God is… I was thinking that the United States and many countries in the world have worked hard to eliminate the whole concept and experience of kingdom, kings and reigning. Two hundred and thirty four years ago this country told the King of England, George III goodbye. There are only five countries remaining today where an absolute monarchy is retained Brunei, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Swaziland. We prefer the concept of independent states. Independence has several synonyms in the thesaurus and they all start with self: self–sufficiency, self-dependence, self-reliance, self-subsistence and self-support. So I think it’s tough for many in the world who have fought for independence to fully accept the concept of the Kingdom of God and the idea of God’s reigning presence that Pastor John taught us about. In Daniel 5:13-29 the Bible describes King Belshazzar’s struggle with God’s reign and ours. Verse 22 says “But you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart”. As Daniel says, God holds our breath in His hand and owns all our ways but like worldly kingdoms we “subjects” have a part to play. We have a loving King (see Psalm 36:7) in whom we can trust. I know that trust in God has been progressive in my life as I have seen His trustworthiness in sickness, danger and disaster. I want to take my next right step in trust and in that receive everything God my King has for me. Do: List any trust issues you have, untrustworthy parents or bosses, girlfriends, boyfriends or spouses. And know that trust grows slowly. Look up and study all the times that David uses the word trust in his Psalms. Pray: God, I acknowledge You as my King. I put my trust in You. Help me with any of my trust issues, so I can allow you to reign in my life. Amen.
