A few years ago I was given a sticker that said “Jesus is the reason for the season” it served as a gentle reminder that it is Jesus’ birthday that we celebrate not gift giving or decorated plants. The real deeper truth is that our sin is the reason Jesus came to earth and so the reason for His birth. 

While we celebrate His birth it is about more than just another baby being born as wonderful as that is, but about the coming into being of God’s plan for our salvation. It is a time to celebrate being loved so much that God would not leave us without hope or a way back to Him. Jesus began the hard task of paying for our sins when he was born and that is why we celebrate his birth. 

Do

As you go about your day take some time to remember that the reason Jesus came was to provide you with a way back to God.

Pray

Lord we thank you that you had a plan for our salvation. It all began with your son’s birth. Help us to celebrate Jesus’ birth and to not forget what it means for us and why it was necessary. Amen
