Think: This past weekend Pastor Ben provided instruction on “Getting Unstuck”. In his sermon he referenced the Chliean miners and how the connection they had with one another, as well as communication with loved ones, helped them survive 69 days trapped underground.
I myself, am claustrophobic (fear of no escape and being closed in) and I also have a fear of heights (acrophobia). So it got me to thinking about the 33 miners and how they dealt with the ordeal of being trapped for over two months. How different do you imagine the result would have been had the miners had little to no contact with one another or their loved ones? My guess is the outcome may not have been as joyous as we witnessed this past October.
If we aren’t careful we can sometimes find our walk with the Lord feeling lonely, maybe even constricted at times. A good friend of mine who has been a committed follower of Christ for the better part of 30 years recently approached me and several other individuals to be his “counsel”. Each Friday from 7-8 in the morning we gather and wrestle with all kinds of topics and subjects, but always with the premise of looking to God’s word for instruction and guidance. We have been at it for about six months and we have yet to find a topic that God’s Word hasn’t provided us some guidance and insight on. Our faith is being refined each and every week thanks to this small community we have. God has given us His Word to draw closer to Him, and He has also built us to live in community with one another.
If you are looking to get unstuck, think about drawing some good friends together to be your “counsel”. The contact and discussion will help sustain you in your daily walk.
P.S. If you need to find a name for your fears may I suggest you go to The Phobia List: http://phobialist.com/. By the way Tropophobia is the fear of making changes or moving….
Do: Seek out God’s Word. Examine it, and apply it, it is food for the soul. Find a small community of friends to help you in your walk with Christ.
Pray: Heavenly Father I desire to draw closer to You today. You have provided Your Word and Your Son to Us . May my faith be renewed by Your Word today. May I be drawn to a community of individuals who can sharpen my beliefs, my faith. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church.
