Think: Pastor Ben taught us this week that when we accept our place in the kingdom, like Moses, we will be called to serve (See Galatians 5:13). Service, I believe, takes many forms and functions. First of all, we are called to serve our families. Ephesians tells us a lot about it. Ephesians 5:25 tells me to love my wife as Christ loved the church. Ephesians 6:4 tells me to train my children in the instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:2 asks me to honor my parents.
I think serving our family is a good training ground for our service to the rest of the kingdom we’re called to impact. 1 Timothy 3:13 tells us that conditions for church service are based on a person’s home life. It is important to God that we devote ourselves to caring for our families as our first priority.
Teaching my children prepares me for teaching others, and loving my family prepares me for loving and serving others. The evidence of my family life and service indicates my readiness to serve the church.
Do: As you look for places to serve in the church make sure you are serving your family.
Pray: Father, you call me to serve through love. Fill me with Your love, so that I can serve You well for all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church.
