Think: On Sunday Pastor Nick talked to us about ‘Love serving’ and said that serving is a lifestyle not an event. It is easy for us to get caught up in the thing we do that serves. While it is good for all of us to undertake an action or commitment to serve it is important that we don’t’ see that as the only way we can serve others. Many times we serve in an area for a season while God prepares us for something else. If we get stuck into thinking what we are doing is all we can do we may miss new opportunities to learn and serve God and others.

Like Simon Peter and Andrew we must be willing to hear God’s calling to another area of serving if He chooses but also to mirror in our lives the servant heart that Jesus showed us, to be willing to live a life serving other and meeting the needs of others above our own. In this way we can not only bless others but grow ourselves. We can develop a deeper spiritual life change centered on our relationship with Jesus.

It has become a common phrase “live a good Christian life’ but it is often used to describe people who have no relationship with Jesus, how much more powerful when that life shines Jesus through the deeds and actions. We can reflect God to those who do not know him through our actions and attitudes if we serve with love in His name.

Do: As you go about your day watch for an opportunity to serve others in your daily life. Think about being the hands and feet of the Bible, the way that God shows His love to others is through our actions.

Pray: Lord; please show us any areas in which you wish us to serve more like you. We ask that you would show us the opportunities we have where we can make a small difference in someone’s life today which shows them your love. Help us put legs on Your love to take it to those that do not know You yet.

Thank you Father for those that bless and serve us, especially those whose ministry is not the most comfortable one such as standing in the cold and wet to guide us in the car park each week or work behind the scenes to make things happen.

The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church.
