Think: On Sunday Pastor Nick talked to us about ‘Love serving’. “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done.” I have in the past worked in an area where I had to wash people’s feet each day, let me tell you, it is extremely humbling and appreciated by the recipients. I was much more fortunate than Jesus, the feet I washed had not walked miles along dusty roads, sweated in the sun or picked up all manner of dirt before I saw them and yet each person felt better after.

I have heard many people say that if their feet are uncomfortable then they aren’t happy, perhaps that is why pedicures are so popular with both genders now? In washing their feet Jesus not only showed the disciples the example he wanted them to set but he met them at one of their immediate and possibly most uncomfortable needs at the time. I’m sure none of them were sitting there thinking ‘I just want clean feet’ but I do not doubt that they felt physically and spiritually better after he had ministered to them.

Jesus set us the example of not only serving others but looking for the needs of others and meeting them when we can, to look at the broken world around us and in small but impactful ways beginning to help Him heal it.

Do: Look at the needs of those God has put in your life on a regular basis and see if in some small way you can help begin to heal and be comforted by God’s love and care through your service.

Pray: Lord, we thank you that you know not only our needs but those of the people around us. As we come into contact with people today please raise our awareness of their needs both spoken and unspoken; help us see those needs and meet them where we can. We ask Lord, for the strength and ability to serve those who need it most and the courage to step out and do it. In Jesus’ name, Amen
