Think: There are certain people you just love to be around… You know who they are. Just thinking about them makes you smile. They bring a little joy into the room when they come in, are truly interested in what’s going on in your life and always have a kind word to share.
I think of that type of person when I read in the book of Proverbs when it speaks of the tongue’s power to hurt or to heal. For example in one of today’s verses it says: “A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit. . . . A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!” (Proverbs 15:4,23).
No matter what our schedule looks like, maybe the most important ministry we do is helping and encouraging people, especially through what we speak. After all, we’ve discovered this week that we will represent Christ today through everything we say. What an honor it would be if we were known as happy people who have a smile and a kind word for everyone.
Do: Change the day for someone today by offering a kind word, joyfully greeting them, answering with a word ‘spoken in due season’ (just what they needed to hear at just the right time.)
Pray: Lord, help me to changing the world for one person today who just needs to hear kindness, care, concern… Show me who that is and give me Your words to speak to them. Amen.
The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church.
