Read: Habakkuk 1:5 and Matthew 28:16-20
Think: We read from the prophet Habakkuk --- “Look around at the nations; look and be amazed! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it” (Habakkuk 1:5 NLT).
These are exciting days to be alive. There are more Christians on earth right now than ever before. The Apostle Paul was right when he said in Colossians 1:6 “This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives…” We’re certainly seeing that to be true at Timberlake Church. God is using you and me in this small part of the Body of Christ (His Church) to reach hundreds of people with His love, compassion and grace… over 400 people have given their heart to Jesus just within the last year at our church!!!
And God is not done! Pastor Ben’s message about sharing our faith was a great reminder of our part in what He’s up to. We have to begin (or continue) to develop what could be called Great Commission Thinking from Matthew 28… Which looks something like this: Every time I read and watch the news, talk with a friend or coworker about what is happening in their life, meet a new person I try to see them through the lens of my call to fulfill the Great Commission.
The truth is wherever there is change or conflict, you can be sure that God will use it to bring people to Him. In fact our friends and neighbors and the world overall are most receptive to God when they are under tension or in transition. Have you noticed a lot of change, tension and challenges in people’s lives lately? I have too! And as the rate of change is increasing and the pressures of economy/family/etc. are rising, more people are open to hearing the good news now than ever before.
The things that look the darkest when seen through the lens of God’s greatest assignment to all who follow Him can be the best opportunity for sharing His Good News. If we’ll only have eyes that see and ears that hear…
Do: Change your viewpoint…. See the world and what is happening through the lens of the Great Commission – God wants most of all to seek and save the lost. And He’ll use every life circumstance to draw people to Himself.
Pray: God, help me to see Your grand plan and purpose in both the great times of life and the challenging times. Let me not lose sight of your laser focused desire to bring as many people into relationship with you as possible! Use me as I reach out to friends, family, coworkers to be a true witness for You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church.
