Wednesday - Can You Spot the Counterfeit?
Wednesday June 22, 2011

Speaker: Ben Sigman
Theme: Daniel - Being a Person of Integrity
Read: Daniel 1
Think: This Sunday Pastor Ben spoke to us about Daniel and the three elements of integrity. One of these was to know what you believe. This is so important, a fundamental part of walking with Christ. For it is only by learning who God is and what the Bible teaches us that we can know if we are making the right choices.
Often when you go to a gas station or mini mart you see the cashier take your $20 bill and check to make sure it’s authentic. They are looking to make sure we’re not passing along a counterfeit bill. Those cashiers aren’t trained to recognize every possible discrepancy of counterfeit money … but they are trained how to recognize the original. It is by knowing the original so well that they see what is not correct; in the same way, we need to know God so well that we see things that don’t fit with His truth and His perfect plans. As Daniel did we need to learn about God’s plans for our lives and His way of living so that we can keep ourselves on the right track.
By reading and knowing Scripture, regular prayer and being in community with others of the same faith Daniel prepared himself to know what he should and shouldn’t do to follow God’s commands. He could spot the counterfeit and find the original gaining the true worth and reward of following God at His Word.
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved,
a worker who does not need to be ashamed and
who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
Do: How well would you do at recognizing counterfeit faith or belief? Decide today what you are going to do to be able to know God’s Word and what it teaches better. Take some time to reread today’s passage and see what God is saying to you through it.
Pray: Lord, please help us to learn more about you and your plans for us. We thank you that we have access to the Bible and the ability to learn about You in its pages. Please help us appreciate and make the most of our time with You each day. Thank you that You speak to us and show us Yourself through Your Word. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
