Speaker: Dwight Mason
Theme: Living Life to the Fullest
Read: Acts1:1-11; Romans 8:6 and 15:13
Think: On Sunday, our guest speaker Pastor Dwight presented such a great explanation of how to live our life to the fullest by focusing on our spiritual life. In Genesis 2:7 God breathed His physical and spiritual life into Adam. At the point of his creation, Adam didn’t need a savior; he was created without sin and was given the Spirit of God. But in Genesis 2:17 God warned Adam and Eve that they would die both physically and spiritually if they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
We know the rest. Adam lived just 900 years when he was created to be immortal and ten generations after Noah’s flood, people only lived 70 years. But Adam and Eve’s spiritual death was almost instant, they went from walking daily in the garden with God to being sent out of the garden to live outside of God’s presence.
All the generations of the Old Testament struggled with the spiritual death of Adam and Eve until Jesus came to renew the breath of spiritual life. In John 20:22 after Jesus was raised from the dead and was commissioning His disciples “He breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit…’” We once again have access to the presence of God on a daily basis by His Spirit dwelling within us. And as Pastor Dwight taught us, in Him, we find our significance, acceptance and security.
Do: Run a keyword search at www.biblegateway.com this week on “receive Holy Spirit”. Read Galatians 5:22 about the fruit of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Pray: Father, fill me with your Holy Spirit so that my need for significance, acceptance and security can be found in You. Amen.
