Weekend Speaker: Dave Nelson
Theme: Is It Just Me?
Read: Ezekiel 37:1-14
Think: This past weekend, Pastor Dave taught us about what to do when we get spiritually stuck. I have definitely experienced what he’s talking about. In those stuck times, I have felt: ineffective, like I am lacking purpose, lost, disappointed, bored, like standing still, spiritually dry.
It reminded me of Ezekiel’s Valley of Dry Bones from today’s reading. Ezekiel had the unenviable job of pointing out to the nations of his age their problems and failures. God made Ezekiel see what He saw about their state. In this instance, God set Ezekiel down in a valley of dry Judean bones.
I think the beginning of getting unstuck for me has been to look the problem square on, don’t run, don’t make excuses, stand in it like Ezekiel did. As we are faithful to seek God’s view of our spiritual situations and then own up to them, He can breathe new life into them. As Pastor Dave said, what God breathes into us is His Spirit, His power and His boldness. I usually find myself spiritually stuck when I have been working to live out my life on my terms, by my strength. Not necessarily evil or disobedient… just in my strength.
Do: Let’s look at our relationships, jobs, finances, spiritual state and life’s mission and see if we have surrendered them to God and are working in His strength or in ours.
Pray: Father, show me any valley of dry bones in my life where I am ineffective, dead and dry. I pray You would breathe Your Holy Spirit into those areas that they can be full of life and bring glory to Your name. Amen.
