Tuesday - Who is following you as you follow Jesus?
Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011
Weekend Speaker: Ben Sigman
Theme: Everyone... Where everyone is wanted and everyone is needed.
Read: Psalm 119:33-40; 2 Corinthians 2:14-17
Think: The Bible tells us that we are like sheep and have all gone astray. Some are so fearful of losing their way that they become prisoners in their homes. Others become prolific map readers or owners of GPS units. Still others find it an adventure to take new paths and go “where no man has gone before.”
I recently learned how to use a compass. Not too long ago while SCUBA diving I swam into a concrete wall when I was expecting to explore the depths of an underwater park. It is easy to get disoriented in a murky environment with no points of reference. Had I looked at my compass and TRUSTED it I would have headed in the right direction. The wall was a total surprise to me, I was certain that I was headed toward new territory, not back to where I had just been.
The Bible can be our compass to keep us on the right path in life. We need to use it as a reference, then believe what it says and let it direct our activity. The passage today says, “God leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him.” Who is following you as you follow Jesus? Most likely if you attend Timberlake you came because someone directed you here by invite. It is time to reciprocate. Pastor Ben gave us 7 steps in the process of being a part of God’s Mission for Timberlake. Step 5….Risk…..is probably a part of each of the other 6 steps (Pray, Give, Invite, Serve, Share, and Surrender). With whom will you take the risk and share your story, then invite to come with you to Timberlake?
Do: Pastor Ben challenged us with the question, “Are you walking toward Jesus Christ or away from Him?” What is your answer to that question? Today will you and I let Jesus be the loving Leader and Lord of our lives? Will we choose to follow Him?
Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, may I give grace to others as you have given to me. Help me to make a difference in the lives around me. Show me who You want me to invite to church and give me the right opportunity and words to do it. Direct me in all my ways to follow you! Amen.
The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church.
