Tuesday - Only a Life Lived for Others is Worth Living
Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011
Weekend Speaker: Ben Sigman
Theme: Blueprints for a Better Life - Begin with the End in Mind
Read: Psalm 39:4-5; Romans 8:28
Think: A number of years ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I was 32 years old, my wife was 6 months pregnant, I owned my own business… This was not a good time to die. In that moment, God reminded me how brief my time on earth will be as He did in the Psalm of David that Pastor Ben taught us this past Sunday.
At that time in my life, and in times since, the fear of dying has been on my mind but it has caused me to also have a greater fear of not living with purpose. Back then I prayed, “God, my child needs a father, my wife needs a husband, please, let that be me.” Obviously, He heard and answered yes and virtually every day, I see His miraculous hand in my life.
Albert Einstein wrote -
"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. But without deeper reflection one knows from daily life that one exists for other people; first of all for those upon whose smiles and well-being our own happiness is wholly dependent, and then for the many, unknown to us, to whose destinies we are bound by the ties of sympathy... Only a life lived for others is worth living."
Our life matters, we are called according to God’s purpose (Romans 8:28). Since God’s very poignant reminder to me, I have discovered my purpose in being a father and a husband, serving Him in all I do, and believing for miracles in my life and others.
Do: Look for God’s miracles every day. Write them down this week. He is at work in our world and has an eternal plan and purpose for us to live our lives for others.
Pray: Father, thank you my eternity is safe in You. Help me to know without a doubt that eternity includes today, and help me to invest my life in what will last. Help me to love, serve and see the miracles You are working in my life and in the life of others. Amen.
