Thursday - If You Feel Like You're Drowning...

Weekend Speaker:  Ben Sigman

Theme:   Blueprints for a Better Life - Begin with the End in Mind

Read:  Psalm 39:4-5

Think:  “Help, Help!!!”  The screams tore through the air coming from a woman struggling to keep herself and another on top of the water.  In an instant I assessed the situation and knew that they were not performing a drill in our SCUBA class.   This was a matter of life and death.

Like the sermon title, I began with the end in mind.  Without help, a life could slip below the water and end here on earth.  Much later I was told that I kept yelling, “You’re ok, I’m coming.” An observer said I swam like a rocket.  Another said I spoke boldly directing the gal being rescued to kick, use her legs, then stand as we reached the shore.  She was in shock and listless, and although larger than me, I lifted her to her feet----full SCUBA gear and all.

When I began my swim to assist in a potentially fatal situation I had the end in mind. Two very different scenarios passed through my mind.  One was greatly preferred over the other. It was not my life creating concern, but the life of someone I barely knew.

It has only been 2 days since this event occurred.  I have reflected often on death and the fear many have in regards to it whether it be their own death or that of another.  I can truly say that I have peace about my end.  My future is certain.  I have no speculation.

It's been many years since I asked Jesus to be my Saviour. Though I have had questions, stumbles and doubts during my spiritual journey, I know the one who hears my every cry for Help---and I can hear His voice saying, “It’s ok, I’m coming.”

Do:  Take a few minutes to think of a time when you felt you were “drowning.”  It may not have been literally going under water, but a time when you needed to be rescued. Perhaps you are in that place right now.  Call out to the One who wants to be your Saviour.  “I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love;  for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.” Psalm 59:16

Pray:  Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being a very real presence in times of trial. Lord, it is often hard to get through the events of life. Help me in my times of need.  Let me hear you call my name and assure me that You are coming!  AMEN
