Weekend Speaker: Ben Sigman & Nick Wallsteadt
Theme: All I Want for Christmas Is for God to Hurry Up
This eDevotional was written by a volunteer from Timberlake Church.
READ: Hebrews 10:23
THINK: As I sat in the auditorium listening to Pastor Ben speak about needing God to hurry up, I immediately went back to several moments in my life when that has been my greatest prayer.
The one that was especially significant was when the software company I owned had developed an awesome product for the third largest software company in the world and we found out that another company had purchased them. At first, it seemed to be a great advantage to my company as this new company was very technical and our product was very technical. But as we waited months for the deal to be finalized and all sales of the product had shut down, we had to let several contractors go. All I could think was, “OK God, we’re waiting”.
This contract had come to us through a set of miraculous circumstances that only God could have orchestrated. My wife and I had shopped for million dollar homes in Newport Beach, California, I test drove a BMW 750il with a built in phone (leading edge in the 80s)! But after waiting two years, losing our house and moving my family in with my mother in-law, I finally admitted that, as Pastor Ben mentioned, I had made my business my God. And its failure was the best thing for me and my family. God had gotten my attention.
In His timing I was offered a job in Western Washington that allowed us to move here, establish wonderful church relationships, raise two wonderful children and serve Him with our whole lives.
I will some day ask God to clarify this heartbreaking time for us, but I know that I would not trade where we are today and the fullness of our wonderful blessings for anything.
DO: If you are waiting on something critical in your life today, ask yourself if maybe you have too much invested in it. Maybe you have given it more value than your relationship with God. Maybe God needs to refine your desires as the message notes said.
PRAY: Father, I am waiting on You not to necessarily provide the answer I’m stuck on receiving but to provide Your answer to my greatest prayer. You have my attention, please refine my desires and give me strength in the waiting. I know You are faithful, help me be faithful to Your ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
