Weekend Speaker: Nick Wallsteadt, Student Ministries Pastor
Theme: Getting Unstuck - A New Kind of Resolution
This eDevotional was written by a volunteer from Timberlake Church.
READ: Psalm 121:1-8; II Thess. 2:13-17
THINK: Our band sang a song that is based on the passage from Psalms in today's read section. As you sang along, did you know what you were proclaiming? The words are: "Oh, My God, He will not delay, my refuge and strength always. My help comes from the Lord. I will not fear , His promise is True, My God will come through always." Do you, do I, really believe this?
I desire to be the person who believes that "My help comes from the Lord……" It can be hard to make actions follow desires. One organization that has done this well is Alcoholics Anonymous. It is my understanding that the success rate of those who regularly attend AA meetings is very very high. Accountability is a key component of behavior modification. It is easier for most of us to slack off, lower our self -expectations and cut corners when no one is looking. Why? Too often we care more about what others think of us, than what we think of ourselves.
A new year. A new you. You have all the resources to make this year different. I have found that if I really want to see change in my life, I must be willing to tell others. Getting a spiritual partner or joining a growth group will start the process. Now get specific. What do I want to change, add, delete , become?
2012... a new year… lots of unknowns… yet in the midst of "what ifs" we can be assured that
God is present. For every "what if" He has a "so what ". There is no situation outside God's ability to
bring us through. Fill in the blank, "What if _____________________________?" The answer:
"Then God." He is the First and the Last. He has promised to be with us always. He will never leave us
and if we chose to hide, He will still be well aware of our situation ready and waiting to be asked to help. Yes, our help comes from the Lord.
DO: Will we chose to make real change in our lives in 2012? We must decide who we want
to be, invite the Lord into the process and then determine what steps we need to take to make real change. Tell someone of your decision and ask them to remind you. Real change is possible if we are willing.
PRAY: Dear Heavenly Father, help me to take the next right step in my life. Give me the desire and the strength to change that which is keeping me from being fully free. May I begin today to live in such a way that at the end of 2012 I will hear a voice say, "Well done my good and faithful servant." AMEN
