Daily Devotional: Wednesday, Jan 13
Speaker: Ben Sigman Theme: Spiritual Growth Weekend Music links on iTunes: Salvation is Here by Hillsong United; Break my Heart by Mike Flathers; Cannons by Phil Wickham; Healer by Kari Jobe. Read: Psalm 81:6-16; Psalm 107:8-9 Think: We had lots of trees surrounding our home when I was growing up. So as a kid, I remember looking for bird's nests. It was pretty incredible to watch the eggs and wait for those featherless baby birds with bulging eyes and gaping mouths to break out of their shells. I remember their heads bobbing with their mouths wide open, just waiting for momma bird give them their dinner. In a way those baby birds remind me of one of God's promises from today's bible reading: "Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it with good things." (Psalm 81:10). At the time this was written the people of Israel unfortunately turned God down on His offer. They ignored God and He "...let them follow their own stubborn desires, living according to their own ideas." (v.12). That led them to trouble and they missed out on God's physical and spiritual blessing. In the same way God still wants to satisfy our spiritual hunger... if we'll just take him up on his offer. If we refuse God's provision it's like we suffer a sort of spiritual malnutrition. We won't grow or experience the full life God wants for us. But if we "open our mouths wide" we can be sure that God will fill us. Do: How is your posture toward the Lord today? Are you open to Him? Change whatever you need to in order to put yourself in a place to receive from Him. Pray: God, I come to you open for whatever it is you have for me today. Feed with your truth, your love, your forgiveness and your direction. Show me where I have been holding back from you so I can make the changes I need to in order to be fully available to you. Amen. The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church. |
