Speaker: Ben Sigman Theme: Worship Weekend Music links on iTunes: Today is the Day by Lincoln Brewster; Run by Hillsong United; Love Came Down by Ben Cantelon; Desert Song by Hillsong United. Read: Psalm 19:1 Think: In the summer time, I try to bike to work at least once a week. I take the Sammamish trail which runs parallel to Lake Sammamish, and I get an incredible view of the water. As I’m riding, one way I have found to worship God is by being cognizant of and thankful for His awesome creation. As I feel the clean morning air and the natural endorphins from the exercise, I recognize God’s creative genius in how he has made our bodies and the beautiful creation he has provided for us to live in. Olympian Eric Liddell (Chariots of Fire) was quoted as saying “I believe that God made me for a purpose, but He also made me fast. When I run, it's in His pleasure.” Liddell recognized God’s glory in the athletic abilities God had created in him. Psalm 19:1 says “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” God’s creation brings glory to him and God is worshiped when we acknowledge and enjoy his creation. There are countless ways for us to do this – being thankful for God’s creation of the coffee bean (my kids wake up at 6:00 daily, so I get this opportunity to worship every morning), appreciating Mt. Rainier on a clear day, or watching in amazement as a toddler learns to walk. So next time you are enjoying the Seattle summer weather or eating a steak (or tofu-dog if you are a vegetarian), take a moment to ponder how amazing it is that God created it all. Do: Think about God’s creation around you. Acknowledge his amazing creativity and praise him for what he has made. Pray: God, I praise you for what you have made. Please open my eyes daily to what you have made and show me how to praise you in it. The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church. |
