Speaker: Ben Sigman Theme: Worship Weekend Music links on iTunes: Today is the Day by Lincoln Brewster; Run by Hillsong United; Love Came Down by Ben Cantelon; Desert Song by Hillsong United. Read: Deuteronomy 10:12-13; Luke 10:39-42 Think: I was sick with a virus the first part of the month. For days, I laid around waiting to feel well enough to engage in normal life activities. My head and throat hurt so much it was difficult to concentrate while reading. I watched a lot of movies and TV. I was struck by the focus on our condition, the popular subject in daytime talk shows. Experts on health, relationships, organizing/clutter, fashion, decorating, etc. are sharing all day long about how to improve your life and surroundings. I felt the Lord revealing His truths to me as I lay around, physically unable to serve Him. We know from His word that this life of ours was not intended to be about developing perfection in our appearance, our home, circumstances and well-being. This is idolatry. It IS good to eat right, take care of our bodies (1 Cor. 6:19-20), have a good self-image, sense of style, a clean and organized home and hobbies. The real clutter actually is all of the idols that are distracting us from what is important to God. In Luke 10:39-42 Mary has chosen to sit at the feet of Jesus and He said it is a better choice. We were made to glorify and exalt our God; proclaim His Lordship and saving power to the lost and dying around us. He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8NKJV Do: Check out the bible to determine how God is asking us to live. Determine what it means to ‘sit at the feet of Jesus’ and do it. Ask God to use you in a new way today. Pray: God, I know you love me and you’ll never leave me, even though I have been an idolater and placed more importance on the things of this world than I should. Help me to love you so much that I become less concerned about what everyone else is doing. Give me opportunities to love people who need it most and give me boldness to share Christ. The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church. |
