God’s love for us, our love for God and our love for one another are all explored and communicated. Marital love and relationships are not tipped-toed around either. As pastor stated, marriage and sex are God’s idea and He has given us some great instruction for happy, fulfilling love relationships. If asked, I’m sure we would all respond that, of course we love our spouse! Still, it seems, many married people struggle with feeling that their spouse truly loves them. Why is that? In his book, “The Five Love Languages”, Dr. Gary Chapman contends that there are five basic ways that people give and receive love. These are: 1.Words of Affirmation 2.Physical Touch 3.Quality Time 4.Acts of Service 5.Gifts You may be knocking yourself out giving gifts or doing dishes (my grandma always said, “Sex begins in the kitchen!” clearly, acts of service did it for her!) when what your spouse really wants is some time with you in the bedroom. DO: Spend some time observing how your spouse shows love to you because often, a person gives love the way they wish to receive it. It will give you clues as to how to really make them FEEL loved. Ask them what they think their “Love Language” is. Have a conversation about it, really listen to their answers and begin to put it into daily practice. If they do the same for you, you will both benefit. PRAY: Dear God, I really love my spouse and I want them to FEEL loved. Help me to understand his/her needs better and to keep their love tank full. Amen
