Thursday, March 31 2011 - Run the Race
Thursday March 31, 2011

Theme: Jealousy
Weekend Music links on iTunes: Salvation Is Here, No Not One, None But Jesus
Read: Hebrews 12:1-2
Think: In teaching us the antidotes to jealousy, Pastor Ben encouraged us to run our own race. Hebrews 12:1,2 tells us how.
1) Throw off everything that hinders – if we were training for the Olympic 800m race we’d find out in a hurry what was hindering us. One of the things is worrying about anyone else’s race.
2) Run with perseverance – If we know the race we’re running is the only one we’ll have in our life, we’ll keep trying.
3) Run the race marked out for us – we are all uniquely gifted by God and those gifts should direct us to our race. Our life experience, passions, giftings and circumstances prepare us uniquely for our race.
4) Fix our eyes on Jesus – we have been given a perfect model of a race well run, Jesus. Like the wisdom given to bank tellers identifying counterfeit currency, they spend all their time focusing on what the real thing looks like.
Do: Write down what you think your race is. What does the finish line look like? How would you apply the model of Jesus’ race to yours?Pray: Father, thank you for the gifts, life experience and race you have marked out for me. Help me to keep my eye on you Jesus and the prize set before me. Amen.
The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church.
