Think: So many times people attend church on Sundays thinking that’s where our faith develops and grows. Although it may be partially true, it’s not the complete truth. There was a question last Sunday asking, “how can I grow in my faith?” As a response, Pastor Ben suggested several different ways such as; join a growth group, attend Discover Membership, sign up for the Edevo’s but notice he didn’t just say, “come to church on Sundays.”
Many forget that Sundays aren’t necessarily geared to cultivate friendships or to learn/study the Bible in an in-depth manner so limiting your faith journey to Sunday mornings will stunt your spiritual growth.
If you’re anything like me, it’s due to just laziness, priority issues, or just complacency. The Christian faith demands us to be intentional about our growth. When it comes to our relationship with God, it takes work- just like our relationships with our spouses and friends. Imagine only speaking to your husband or wife once a week for 1 hour? What would that do to your marriage? Imagine talking to your kids once a week, what would that do to your relationship with them?
Just like any other relationship, it takes intentionality so make a commitment today. Allow God to take precedence in your life. I used to say my life was too busy- even to pray- then I heard a pastor say, “you’re life is too busy NOT to pray.” Point taken!
Do: Decide to take the next step in your faith. Join a growth group coming up. Lead a growth group. Give yourself 10 minutes every day to pray and read the Bible. What’s your next right step?
Pray: God help me to get to know you more every single day by taking all the right steps towards you.The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church.
